The Forgive, Forget and Follow Files 20/3

After the weekend of Group 1 racing we assess the horses you need to forgive, forget and to follow heading into a huge Autumn carnival.

Forgive

September Run – Chris Waller

4th of 12 in the 1200 metre Group 1 William Reid Stakes

Tailed off last before the turn she somehow launched late to finish 4th. On a night where it was advantageous to be toward the inside, she has done an amazing job to finish as close as she did. Swap her run with the winner and she most likely wins. The next obvious target would be the TJ Smith in Sydney or does she go for a break to get her ready at her first Everest assault in the Spring. Whichever path she takes the Waller trained filly has proved herself this campaign that she is up there with the best sprinters in the country.

Ancestry – Phillip Stokes

4th of 9 in the 1200 metre Listed Hareeba Stakes

At first glance his run was pretty ordinary finishing 4th as the $1.80 favourite, but he just didn’t have it all his own way. Sirius Suspect niggled the leader and just took him out of his comfort zone under jockey Luke Nolen, who doesn’t usually team up with Ancestry. Forgive him on this occasion, with Michael Poy back in the saddle come Spring a race like the Moir Stakes or even the Manikato look nice races for him to have a crack at.

Forget

Brooklyn Hustle – Jason Warren & Dean Krongold

7th of 12 in the 1200 metre Group 1 William Reid Stakes

She keeps running into bad luck, that’s three Group 1’s in a row now where she has been luckless. Stiff to feature in the forget file but it is hard to keep forgiving the mare, as she seems to always go to the line untouched. She is good enough for this level and her day will come with a win at the highest level but for now she’s in the forget file.

Follow

How Womantic – Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace

2nd of 9 in the 1200 metre Listed Hareeba Stakes

Started her career undefeated after four starts but has only managed the one win from seven starts since. To be fair she has been set some big tasks including a run in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate. However, her run in the Hareeba Stakes demonstrated she is definitely up to a Group 3 or even a Group 2 and maybe even another go at a Group 1 in time who knows. Definitely one to follow in the coming months.

Let’s Karaka Deel  – Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace

2nd of 9 in the 1600 metre Mornington Guineas

Another Maher & Eustace runner to follow, especially heading into the South Australian carnival as this is a horse that is potentially on track for a SA Derby. First up since running in the VRC Derby last preparation, he looks to have improved over the break almost beating home Dom To Shoot who has been competitive back home in WA behind the likes of Truly Great and Inspirational Girl. If it’s not the SA Derby, another option might be the Queensland Derby, either way he looks like one to follow heading into the two Winter Carnivals.
