After the weekend of racing we assess the horses you need to forgive, forget and to follow.

Forgive 

Kapalua Sunset – Danny O’Brien

8th of 11 in the 2000 metre Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (Caulfield)

There were high expectations on this Oaks bound filly after Brett Prebble gave her a massive pump up on radio during the week. However, she didn’t quite deliver but to be fair she was simply luckless at a crucial stage. Some would argue she didn’t hit the line but she looks like a horse that needs to build and I’m willing to forgive her and think she’s still a live hope in the VRC Oaks.

Forget

Rubisaki – Patrick Payne

7th of 12 in the 1100 metre Listed Alinghi Stakes (Caulfield)

She had a slight freshen up after her Winter Stakes failure but once again was disappointing on Saturday. The stewards report didn’t note any real excuse for the five-year-old mare and now takes her to nine starts without a win. This is after not missing the quinella in her first 10 starts, she can go around next start without me.

Steinem – Ciaron Maher & David Eustace

2nd of 7 in the 1400 metre Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (Caulfield) 

After a few below par runs either side of her spell she looked back to her best on Saturday, it took a top class mare to beat her in Colette. Don’t forget that Steinem was the hot $2.80 favourite in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks early this year and has the talent to go on with it this campaign. The stable have said she’ll head to a race during Cup week and will be one to follow whichever race she heads to.
