The Forgive, Forget and Follow Files 12/6

After the weekend of Group 1 racing we assess the horses you need to forgive, forget and to follow.

Forgive

Odeum – Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr

2nd of 15 in the 1400 metre Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (Eagle Farm)

Caught four-wide the trip but still looked a chance with 200 metres to go until Brooklyn Hustle gave her windburn right before the post. If Odeum gets the box seat run does she win it, most likely but it wasn’t her day and her day will come and is one to forgive.

La Chevalee – Ciaron Maher & David Eustace

3rd of 12 in the 1600 metre Benchmark 78 (Randwick)

This was a tough watch for punters! The four-year-old mare could not find any gaps when she needed until very late when Regan Bayliss opted for an inside run when it was all over slashing home to finish 3rd. With a bit more luck at a key stage the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace trained galloper simply wins.

Forget

Savatoxl – Tony & Calvin McEvoy

16th of 18th in the 1400 metre Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (Eagle Farm)

Has had a huge preparation winning the Group 1 Goodwood and the trainer and owners have done an amazing job getting him to the top level but his past two runs in Queensland may have found him out a little. To be fair he did have some issues with lameness but it’s hard to see him competing in the high level sprints this Spring such as The Everest and VRC Sprint Classic. Maybe a race like the Moir could suit him but he’ll go around without me this Spring!

Follow

Knight’s Order – Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott

1st of 6 in the 3200 metre Group 2 Brisbane Cup (Eagle Farm)

He only beat a six horse field home but absolutely relished the step up to 3200 and is a promising horse on the up. Carif was almost five lengths behind back in second whilst the Sydney Cup runner up Rondinella was a further two and a half lengths back in fourth. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott trained galloper is one to follow heading into the Spring and could even be a lightweight Melbourne Cup hope if he continues to improve.
