Stephen Curry records his 63rd 40-point game

Stephen Curry of Akron, Ohio just seems to get better with age. At 35 years old, Curry scored 41 points on Friday in a 122-114 Golden State Warriors win over their northern California state regional rivals, Sacramento Kings. In the process, he recorded his 63rd 40-point game of his National Basketball Association career, and the 33rd 40-point game since he turned 30 years old.

The only player with more than 33 40-point games since turning 30 was the great Michael Jordan of Brooklyn, New York, who had 44 40-point games after 30 with the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. Curry’s 63 40-point games are the 14th most in NBA history. Wilt Chamberlain of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is the all-time leader with 271.

Among active players, Curry has the fourth most 40-point games. Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden of Los Angeles, California has 101 40-point games, Los Angeles Lakers power forward LeBron James of Akron has 74 40-point games, and Phoenix Suns power forward Kevin Durant of Washington, District of Columbia has 65 40-point games.

However, you could make the argument that the disgruntled Harden is not active at this time because he is holding out with the 76ers. Harden does not like 76ers President of Basketball Operations Darryl Morey at all, and there has been a lot of speculation recently that Harden would be traded. The Los Angeles Clippers were a team showing interest in Harden, but those talks have quieted down in the last week.

The Warriors meanwhile won their first game of the season on Friday. They lost their season opener 108-104 to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday.
