Spurs point guard De’Aaron Fox to have season-ending pinkie surgery

According to Rogers Sportsnet on Thursday, San Antonio Spurs point guard De’Aaron Fox of New Orleans, Louisiana is out for the rest of the 2024-25 National Basketball Association regular season. The Spurs announced that Fox will have pinkie finger surgery on Tuesday. He initially injured his pinkie during training camp while with the Sacramento Kings, and it was determined that surgery was required at this time.
Fox was the principal player moved in a trade involving the Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls on February 3. It would be interesting to know how much the Spurs knew about Fox’s injury at the time of the deal. When a tendon is torn in the finger, many times there are significant challenges in bending the finger.
This season, Fox shared his time with the Kings and Spurs. He averaged 23.5 points per game, 6.3 assists per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, and 1.5 steals per game. Fox has been known for his steals throughout his career. He had a NBA-leading two steals per game in 2023-24 and led the NBA with 150 steals. Also in 2024-25, Fox has a field goal percentage of .463, three-point percentage of .310, and a free throw percentage of .827.
Fox is one of two Spurs players that is dealing with a significant injury. In February, the Spurs announced that Victor Wembanyama would have a blood clot in his right shoulder and wound miss the rest of the regular season.
The Spurs are at 27 wins and 37 losses. They are four and a half games back of the Dallas Mavericks for the final spot in the play-in tournament.
