Australia’s already-sizzling bowling attack will hit another level again when it arrives in Adelaide, with Pat Cummins confirming he’s “good to go” as the home side looks to take a victorious 3-0 lead in the Ashes series

“I’ll have one more bowl tomorrow in the nets, and then we’ll go to Adelaide and have a bowl there,” Cummins told host broadcaster Fox Sports mid-match in Brisbane. “Barring any hiccups, I’ll be good to go. The body feels great.”

There had been mail floating around that Cummins was going to be in as early as the Brisbane Test, and the Aussie captain confirmed as much in the same match interview. “It felt a bit too acute and didn’t really feel fair on the other bowlers,” he added. “We thought it didn’t feel like the right Test match to take that risk, so kick it down the road for a week.”

“I’m bowling at 100 per cent,” the 71-Test veteran continued.

“The big question mark when coming back from a bone injury is we tend to have a bowl, have a couple of days off, recover, bowl, bowl.

“I haven’t done back-to-back bowls. One of the high-risk things going into a Test match is you’re going to be expected to bowl two days in a row, maybe three days in a row, and potentially quite a few overs. So we felt that was too risky.”

Doggett will be the Aussie star to make way for Cummins returning, The Sporting Base has heard — probably the least surprising pick. The fast bowler put in a shift through Perth and Brisbane, but never really hit a higher gear and failed to adapt to the team’s short-pitched plan. Michael Neser will also be out, with Nathan Lyon returning to play.

Coming into the Ashes contest midway through will be interesting for Cummins, especially as he retakes the captaincy reins, though he’s been with the squad throughout the Summer so far, so little will change beyond matchday.

This will mark the veteran’s 72nd Test. He has a career average of 21.19 with the ball in Adelaide.
