Sirius Suspect primed for Standish Handicap

The Saab Hasan trained Sirius Suspect is all systems go ahead of his run in the Group 3 Standish Handicap over 1200 metres on Friday.

The six-year-old gelding has had two starts this preparation finishing a close third behind Exhilarates and The Astrologist first up, before winning on Pakenham Cup day.

Connections have been eyeing off the $160,000 feature on New Years Day all preparation. Speaking on SEN’s program Bensley this morning, trainer Saab Hasan expects Sirius Suspect to peak third up. 

“We targeted the Standish as we thought it was the most winnable Group 3 race for him,” Hasan said.

“The plan was to just produce him over the carnival and not have him fully wound up.

“Then put the finishing touches on him second up which is what we did and it was a solid win at Pakenham.”

Hasan has booked in-form jockey Jamie Kah for Friday’s assignment after she partnered with Sirius Suspect to his last start victory. 

“Jamie seems to just click with him, she’s got him to settle in all his track work and all his trials and she’s got him to settle in his races unbelievably well.

“She’s doing a tremendous job and she’s starting to get a good affinity with the horse.” 

Looking ahead to his next preparation, a trip to Dubai is on the radar with the horse having a nomination in for the Dubai World Cup Carnival, which is run on March 27.

Sirius Suspect is one of two Australian trained nominations for the Dubai Carnival with the Robbie Griffiths and Mathew De Kock-trained Halvorsen the other nomination.
