Si-Woo Kim of Seoul, South Korea has won his fourth PGA Tournament of his career. On Sunday, he won the 2023 Sony Open from Honolulu, Hawaii.

Kim shot a four-round score of -18. He beat Hayden Buckley of Chattanooga, Tennessee, who was one stroke back at -17. The only other player in contention was American Chris Kirk of Knoxville, Tennessee, who was three strokes back at -15.

The 27-year-old who was born in the same city that hosted the 1988 Olympic Games, won in Hawaii over the weekend despite the fact he had a double bogey in the tournament. Kirk posted a score of six on the second hole in the second round.

Kirk did have an eagle. He posted a score of three on the par-five ninth hole also in the second round on Friday.

Friday’s second round will also be remembered for Jordan Spieth’s collapse. According to ESPN, the four-time major champion became only the sixth golfer over the last decade to go from leading after the first round to missing the cut. Spieth had a first round score of -6, and a second round score of +5. He was under par for the tournament at -1, but he ended up finishing in a tie for 77th place and one stroke outside the cut line of -2.

This was Kim’s first PGA Tour win in two years. Kim’s three prior wins came at the 2016 Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina on August 21, the 2017 Players Championship in northern Florida, and the 2021 American Express Championship in La Quinta, California (formerly known as the Bob Hope Desert Classic).

This was the second of two straight PGA Tour stops in Hawaii. A week ago Jon Rahm of Spain won the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui.
