Seahawks trade wide receiver D.K. Metcalf to the Steelers

National Football League free agency officially starts this week. (We will be giving a comprehensive list of many high profile players who switched teams later today). For now, we need to give a Sunday trade some attention. In an intriguing deal between the Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers, the Seahawks traded wide receiver and two-time Pro Bowler D.K. Metcalf of Oxford, Mississippi to the Steelers for a second round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. According to nfltraderumors.co, the Steelers and Seahawks are expected to trade sixth and seventh round draft picks.
After the trade, the Steelers came to a long term contract with Metcalf. According to Noah Strackbein of Sports Illustrated, he signed a five-year contact extension worth $150 million.
Metcalf has played the last six seasons with the Seahawks. There is now great expectation that the Steelers could bring back quarterback Russell Wilson, who had great chemistry with Metcalf during their time together in Seattle.
This past season, Metcalf had 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns. The two seasons Metcalf was selected to the Pro Bowl came in 2020 and 2023. In 2020, Metcalf had 83 catches and 1303 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, and in 2023, Metcalf had 66 catches for 1114 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Metcalf is the second wide receiver to be traded this past week. On March 1, the San Francisco 49ers have traded wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. of Inman, South Carolina to the Washington Commanders for a fifth round pick in the 2025 National Football League Draft.
