Seahawks need Jamal Adams at his best the rest of the NFL season

We all know how good the Seattle Seahawks offense is. The list is of talent is deep–Russell Wilson, D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Chris Carson. You would not think of a player on the Seahawks defense having a record-breaking season, however, but that was the case on Sunday for safety Jamal Adams of Lewisville, Kentucky.

Adams made National Football History with a second quarter sack in a 40-3 Seahawks win over the New York Jets. With the sack, Adams has 8.5 sacks this season, which breaks the NFL record for most sacks in a season by a defensive back. According to Brandon Gustafson of ESPN 710 AM Seattle, safety Adrian Wilson of the Arizona Cardinals had the old record with eight quarterback sacks during the 2005 NFL season.

The fact that Adams recorded the record-breaking sack against the Jets was also noteworthy. That is because he was traded from the Jets to the Seahawks in July. Adams now has 20.5 sacks in his career over the last four seasons.

Currently, the Seahawks are second in the NFC West with a record of nine wins and four losses. Due to the fact there are now seven teams from each conference that make the postseason instead of six, Seattle is comfortably in a playoff spot.

As mentioned, Seahawks fans do not have to worry about their offense. Their 393 points are second in the NFC. Only the Green Bay Packers at 410 points have more. It is their defense that has been inadequate, as they have given up 324 points as a unit, the sixth most in the NFC. For the Seahawks to go far, they will need Adams, their two-time Pro Bowl star, to be a difference-maker not just in the secondary, but along the line of scrimmage as well.
