For the second straight year, Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey has won the 2024 Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. On Sunday, Scheffler posted a four-round score of -20, which was three strokes better than when he took the title in 2023. In the process, Scheffler became the first golfer ever to win two consecutive Players Championship titles.

In the four rounds, Scheffler posted scores in the 60s. He had a score of five-under-par 67 on Thursday, a score of three-under-par 69 on Friday, a score of four-under-par 68 in round three on Saturday, and a score of eight-under-par 64 in the final round on Sunday. Scheffler’s most memorable shot on the weekend came on the fourth hole in the fourth round. That is when he successfully made a 92-foot eagle. While most eagles come on a par five, Scheffler’s eagle came on a par four, as Scheffler posted a score of two.

Three high profile golfers were in contention, but could not beat the 2022 Masters champion. They were the reigning Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele of San Diego, California, the 2023 United States Open champion Wyndham Clark of Denver, Colorado, and the 2023 British Open champion Brian Harman of Savannah, Georgia. Schauffele, Clark, and Harman were one stroke back at -19.

Clark got off to a great start. At one time he had a five-stroke lead over Matt Fitzpatrick of England and American Maverick McNealy. But he was unable to sustain that success as he had key bogeys on the eighth and 17th holes in round three.

There is no doubt the world number one is playing like the world number one. Scheffler has now won two straight weeks on the PGA Tour as he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational just over a week ago.
