Scottie Scheffler dismisses comparisons to Tiger Woods

7 months ago - Sportingbase Scottie Scheffler dismisses comparisons to Tiger Woods Image

If you have been reading our golf posts on the Sporting Base the last couple of years, the most frequent golfer we discuss has been Scottie Scheffler. The reason is simple. He is the world number one and has won four majors in the last four years, with the latest coming at the British Open earlier this month.

Over the last week comparisons have been made between Scheffler and the legendary Tiger Woods. There is some reason why the comparison is made here. Scheffler has shown dominance in his victories over the last three years. He won by five strokes at the 2023 Players Championship, by five strokes at the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational, by eight strokes at the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson, and five strokes at the 2025 PGA Championship.

However, when comparisons to Woods are being made, statistics need to be kept in mind. Yes, Scheffler has won 17 PGA Tour titles, which is extremely impressive. However, Scheffler’s 17 titles are only 50th on the all-time list, and 65 titles behind Woods, who is tied with Sam Snead for the most ever with 82. Of Woods’s PGA titles, 18 titles came by five strokes or more.

Scheffler also does not have the career grand slam. This is something that Rory McIlroy recently achieved this year at the Masters. While Scheffler is a two-time Masters champion, and won the PGA Championship before winning the British Open in 2025, the United States Open is still not on Scheffler’s resume. Woods won all four majors a minimum of three times,  including the 2000 title at Pebble Beach by an amazing 15 strokes.

The bottom line is that Scheffler is the most golfer now. You cannot make comparisons between Woods and Scheffler. When asked about the comparisons, Scheffler is correct when he said they were “a bit silly.”
