Sam Burns leads after second round of 2025 US Open

Sam Burns of Shreveport, Louisiana is the leader after the second of the 2025 United States Open at the Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Burns is currently at three-under-par on a course that is playing extremely tough in the early going.

So far, Burns had a first round score of two-over-par 72, and a second round score of five-under-par 65. On Thursday, Burns had five bogeys, one double bogey, and five birdies. He birdied the first, third, fifth, 12th, and 14th holes, bogeyed the eighth, ninth, 15th, 17th, and 18th holes, and double bogeyed the 16th hole. Things were spectacular for Burns through the first 14 holes in round one as he was at -2. However, things unravelled in the final four holes as he went +5.

In round two, it went a lot more smoothly for Burns, as he had six birdies and one bogey. He birdied the second, fourth, 11th, 13th, 17th, and 18th holes, and bogeyed the challenging first hole.

There are four other golfers in contention at the moment. J.J. Spaun of Los Angeles, California, the round one leader, is alone in second place at -2. Norway’s Victor Hovland is alone in third place at -1, and Australia’s Adam Scott and American Ben Griffin are tied for fourth place at even par. Scott of Adelaide, is the only golfer in the field not to shoot over par in either of his first two rounds.

We also saw a hole-in-one on Friday. That was accomplished by Victor Perez of France on the sixth hole. He is in sixth place at +1.
