Saints sign tight end Foster Moreau after cancer diagnosis

According to Jesse Garcia of fantasypros.com, the New Orleans Saints signed tight end Foster Moreau of New Orleans, Louisiana to a three-year contract worth $12 million on Wednesday. The Saints become the second team Moreau is playing for following four seasons with the Raiders organization.
The hiring is rather interesting because Moreau was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma during a physical as he was meeting the New Orleans Saints organization during free agency negotiations in March. At the time, Moreau stated he was taking a leave of absence from professional football. That is why the signing at this time could be considered a little surprising. However, according to Garcia, Moreau is responding well to early cancer treatment and the fact the NFL season is starting six months after his initial diagnosis enhances his chances of playing in 2023.

In 2022, Moreau had 33 catches for 420 receiving yards and two touchdowns. In Moreau’s career, he has 91 catches for 1107 receiving yards and 12 touchdown catches.
Moreau is one of three offensive players the Saints have signed during the offseason. He is joined by quarterback Derek Carr of Fresno, California, who signed a four-year deal worth a whopping $150 million, and running back Jamaal Williams, who comes to New Orleans after two seasons with the Detroit Lions. Prior to that, Williams played four seasons with the Green Bay Packers. While with Detroit in 2022, Williams led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns.
It will now be interesting to see if the chemistry between Carr and Moreau will be able to continue and possibly even improve. Don’t forget that Carr comes to New Orleans from Vegas too.
