Russell Westbrook continues to be on an offensive tear

The Houston Rockets might have lost 120-105 at home Thursday night to the Los Angeles Clippers, but what the basketball world is currently seeing from Russell Westbrook is remarkable consistency. The native of Long Beach, California has now recorded a minimum of 20 points in his last 32 games.

Westbrook began the streak on December 7, in a 115-109 Rockets win over the Phoenix Suns. That night Westbrook had 24 points. The last time Westbrook did not have 20 points in a game, he did come close to 20 as he scored 19 points in a 135-133 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on December 3.

In the 32 games during the streak, Westbrook has reached the 40 point plateau four times. He scored 40 points in a 122-117 win over the Clippers on December 19, a season high 45 points in a 131-124 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 24, a total of 41 points in a 121-111 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on February 6 and then 41 points again in a narrow 111-110 win over the Boston Celtics on February 29.

Westbrook, a nine-time all-star point guard (eight times with the Oklahoma City Thunder and once with the Houston Rockets), is averaging 23.2 points per game in his career. In 2019-20, Westbrook is in fact ahead of that pace at 27.5 points per game. He also has a career high field goal percentage of .471 in 2019-20.

The main task for Russell Westbrook and the Rockets meanwhile is to get out of their mini-slump. They currently have a two game losing streak. In addition to their 15 point loss to the Clippers on Thursday, the Rockets also were stunned 125-123 to the New York Knicks on Monday. That was the night when American film producer Spike Lee made headlines when he was not allowed to go through the players entrance at Madison Square Garden. With a record of 39 wins and 22 losses, the Rockets are tied with the Utah Jazz for fourth place in the Western Conference.
