Rosehill Review: Where To For Jacquinot?

Mick Price and Michael Kent’s three-year-old colt Jacquinot outstanding effort to win the Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday has left his connections in a quandary as to what to do with him.

Even though the style of the win and the good record Golden Rose Stakes winners have in the Caulfield Guineas his co-trainer Mick Price said he wanted an Everest slot for him.

Price said the Caulfield Guineas was a difficult race to win. His other option is to freshen him up and run him in the stallion making race the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on October 29.

Jacquinot rocketed home running his last 200m in 10.98 seconds to run over the top of the brave In Secret and Zou Tiger.

Co-trainer Michael Kent Junior said horses rarely won in that style.

“The speed was on and they kept flowing and the important thing was the horse broke well and got into a winning position and he really let down well,” Kent Junior said.

Kent Junior said they trained him to keep the speed in his legs and it worked.
His jockey Damian Lane said Jacquinot just kept on improving.

“He spotted the leaders a big start there so he did great to sprint home there to win,” Lane said.
In Secret fought hard to gain the lead and was very brave. Godolphin could return her to her own sex for her next start.

James Cummings other runner Golden Mile looked likely to win with 200 metres to go but he tired in the closing stages.

In terms of the Caulfield Guineas he shouldn’t be overlooked as his jockey Sam Clipperton said it was a super effort.

“It wasn’t the intention to be as close as what we were. Just under the circumstances we had to ride it that way and he fought on very bravely,” he said.

From way back in the field she rocketed home with the fastest last 200 metres of 10.88 seconds. There might be another big win in her.
