Rosehill Review: The Talk Is He Has A Big Future

Although the Winter Challenge was delayed by a week it was worth the wait as the race could prove pivotal to feature races later in the year.

The winner Cross Talk took his record to five wins from seven starts with his impressive all the way victory in the 1500 metres race at Rosehill on Saturday.

His effort though was overshadowed by the Australian debut of the former French galloper Gold Trip for the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable.

The former New Zealand galloper Cross Talk has returned a much-improved galloper this time in with three wins from four starts and co-trainer Adrian Bott said he had answered every challenge.

Bott admitted Cross Talk had snuck up on them as he had got to stakes level quicker than what they had envisaged.

“We are starting to work him out as he goes better when his races are spaced,” Bott said.
Bott said a race such as the $2 million The Ingham (formerly the Villiers Stakes) in December over 1600 metres would be an ideal target for him.

The race also carries a golden ticket to the winner into the Doncaster next year.
David Eustace said the performance of Gold Trip warranted them setting him for the Cox Plate, a race which he was scratched from on the eve of the race last year.

Eustace admitted to being relieved that Gold Trip finished strongly over the concluding stages in a race where the speed was on from the start, a concept that would have been foreign to the stayer.
Hugh Bowman signified he will be in for a big spring with a winning treble scoring on Pizzaro, Wicklow and Sur La Mer.

GOLD TRIP

Ciaron Maher and David Eustace couldn’t have asked for a better Australian debut from Gold Trip. Racing NSW stewards noted that Gold Trip had to be eased with 200 metres to go when looking for a run and he also became unbalanced for several strides near the 50 metres mark when he got involved in a bumping duel with Snippy Fox. Despite this he still ran the fastest last 200 metres of the race in 12.13 seconds, and he recorded the fastest last 600 metres of the event in 34.97 seconds.

CROSS TALK

Races in a similar fashion to Mr Brightside and is emerging at the same time as he did last year. He races on speed and then can kick away from his rivals. He’s a horse who Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott will continue to place to perfection working him up through his grades.

OSTRACISED

Forgive run for Ostracised in the opening event the TAB Highway. He was slow to begin and then shortly after the start he was checked putting him out of the race. Finished off nicely to be only beaten 2.52 lengths.

WAVERIDER BUOY

No luck for the $6 equal favourite in the second race as he over raced in the middle stages of the race. Stewards noted he was caught wide and without cover for most of the race. Despite this he still worked to the line to finish third behind Troach.

SUR LA MER

Continued her excellent winter campaign with an impressive win in the final race. She was held up for a run but when she got clear galloping room, she burst away to win by almost three lengths. Shaping as a stakes level galloper.
