Rosehill Review: Ellsberg Emerges As A Star

Kudo to Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou for their efforts with Ellsberg who must be the horse of the Sydney Spring carnival.

Ellsberg completed a hat-trick of wins which have netted him over $2 million when he took out the Five Diamonds.

His winning sequence began with the Group 1 win in the Epsom Handicap on a heavy track.

He then won the Five Diamonds Prelude at Rosehill on a slow track and then the Five Diamonds on a good track.

At his last two wins he’s shown great tenacity to lead throughout and defy all challenges.
Ellsberg ran his rivals into the ground as he set a new track record of 1 minute 47.43 seconds for the 1800m defeating the multiple Group 1 winner Intergaze’s record for the distance which had stood for 25 years by .56 seconds.

Ryan said after Ellsberg’s Epsom Handicap win that he would have to become a weight-for-age horse.

Ryan said Ellsberg’s campaign had been sensational and he had got a lot of satisfaction from his run of form.

Ryan said Ellsberg’s front running style of racing was suited to weight-for-age racing.
“We tried him at weight-for-age earlier this year and he ran third to Cascadian and Tofane so he is up to that level.”
