Robert MacIntyre of Scotland wins 2024 RBC Canadian Open

The 113th Canadian Open took place over the last four days at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, and for the fourth time a golfer from Scotland was victorious. On Sunday, Robert MacIntyre of Oban, Scotland got the victory over posting a four round score of -16.
For MacIntyre, it was his very first PGA title. He defeated American Ben Griffin of Chapel Hill, North Carolina by a stroke. Griffin was the lone golfer in second place at -15. Victor Perez of France finished all alone in third place at -14 and two strokes back. Meanwhile, two golfers were tied for fourth place at -13 and three strokes back. There you could find four-time major winner Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland and South Korea’s Tom Kim. McIlroy previously won the 2011 United States Open, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship and 2014 British Open.
McIlroy was the clear favourite to win the 2024 RBC Canadian Open. However, he had a tough second round where he went two over par, and only entered the weekend at two-under-par.
MacIntyre had a first round score of six-under-par 64, a second and third round score of four-under-par 66, and a fourth round score of two-under-par 68. His most notable hole came on the 17th hole in the third round, where he had an eagle on a par five. MacIntyre’s drive went 326 yards. He then had a 244 yard approach shot, and made an eagle putt of 30 feet and six inches.
MacIntyre’s greatest achievement to date was being part of the European squad that won the 2023 Ryder Cup. He teamed up with Justin Rose to beat Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth 3 & 2 in Saturday four ball action, and beat Wyndham Clark 2&1 in individual action.
The first Scottish player to win the Canadian Open was George Cumming in 1905. He was followed by Clarence Hackney in 1923 and Macdonald Smith in 1926.
