Redzel Stakes Review: What The Jockeys Said

Tommy Berry made sure he was going to have more luck on Pierata than he did in the Everest last start by producing a great ride to take out the Redzel Stakes.

Here’s what the jockeys said.

Tommy Berry (Pierata – 1st)

I just trusted him. I knew he was the best horse in the race.

I said to the connections and Greg (Hickman) just before I got in ‘worst case scenario we’ll be three wide and if we are we’ll just have to cop our medicine, believe he’s the best horse in the race and get the job done.’ Gee didn’t he pin his ears back.

Kerrin McEvoy (Trekking – 2nd)

Huge run by this fella. I got a little bit further back than ideal and the pace was only starting to come into the race at the 600m. It was a huge run to come on as well as he did.

Glyn Schofield (Home Of The Brave – 3rd)

Another brave performance. He just wants a bit more cut in the ground.

Leigh Roche (Mister Sea Wolf – 4th)

He ran a good race considering. He wants a bit further – I think 1500m would be ideal for him.

Aaron Bullock (Le Romain – 5th)

We got caught three-wide but I always had cover – I was on the back of Pierata the whole race. It was just good to see the big boy do what we know he can do, he’s run terrific. All systems go for The Hunter.

James McDonald (Deprive – 6th)

He went super, just got a long way back. He ran home well.

Brenton Avdulla (Brave Song – 7th)

He ran good, wasn’t beaten far. He’s just a better horse when he gets a bit of room.

Robbie Dolan (Easy Eddie – 8th)

Disappointing run. He was right there and at about the 300m I thought I was right in it, but those last 100m he was just up and down in the one spot.

Jason Collett (Redouble – 9th)

Soft run, no power.

Todd Pannell (Kapajack – 10th)

Nice horse for the future. When they quickened he just floundered a bit but once he hit his top blade he really ran through the line good. Nice young horse in the making.

Nash Rawiller (Champagne Cuddles – 11th)

Honest as the day is long. She found a nice spot and actually gave the winner a bit of curry for 100m, just the last 50m found her out.

Glen Boss (Fiesta – 12th)

She gave me a great ride in the run, she presented like I was going to be in the top-three. Over the last furlong she put in a couple of awkward strides and dipped, and then she just never finished off.
