Redskins sign cornerback Ronald Darby from the Eagles

The Washington Redskins signed cornerback Ronald Darby of Oxon Hill, Maryland to a one year contract worth $4 million on Sunday according to Chris Chavez of Sports Illustrated and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Darby will be joining his third National Football League franchise. He has previously played two seasons with the Buffalo Bills (2015 and 2016) and three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles (2017, 2018 and 2019).

Last season with the Eagles, Darby played 11 games. He had two interceptions, 37 combined tackles (34 solo tackles and three assisted tackles), and one tackle for a loss.

Both of Darby’s interceptions in 2019 came in Eagles losses. The first interception came on September 15 in a 24-20 Eagles loss to the Atlanta Falcons as Darby had a 13 yard interception from Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. The second interception came on December 1 in a 37-31 Eagles loss to the Miami Dolphins as Darby had a 16 yard interception from Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

In 57 career NFL regular season games, Darby has eight interceptions for 135 total yards. He has 251 combined tackles (224 solo tackles and 27 assisted tackles) along with six tackles for a loss and one quarterback hit.

Originally the Bills second round draft pick, 50th overall in the 2015 National Football League Draft, Darby played his college football at Florida State. While with the Eagles, he was part of the Philadelphia team that won the Super Bowl in 2018. Darby had four tackles and two passes defended as the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 41-33.

In addition to being a high performance football player, Darby has had success internationally in athletics. He won the gold medal for the United States in the boys’ medley relay and a bronze medal in the boys’ 200 metres at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics in Lille, France.
