Re-signed Liddle bats back rival offers in show of Dragons loyalty

Jacob Liddle has re-signed with the St George Illawarra Dragons through to at least the end of the 2028 season, turning down several interested NRL suitors that wanted to lure him away from the Red V.
The Dragons have been speaking to Liddle regarding an extension for some weeks, with fears in the joint venture that their in-form hooker would leave for a starting role elsewhere.

The North Queensland Cowboys had perhaps come closest, calling Liddle several times recently. The South Sydney Rabbitohs had also been informally sounding out the 129-game star.
The Dragons’ fears were allayed by the start of this week, however, with Liddle maintaining he wants to stay at the joint venture as long as they’ll have him — and although he is still behind co-captain Damien Cook in the no.9 pecking order right now, expectations are he’ll be moved into the St George Illawarra starting spot as soon as next season.

Coming off the pine hasn’t dulled Liddle’s impact in 2025, though, with the 28-year-old already scoring six tries in 12 games as an interchange player. The former Wests Tigers star has already made 58 appearances in the Red V since moving in 2023.
Following the re-signing news announcement, Dragons coach Shane Flanagan said: “Jacob has become a really important player for us since joining the club, and his form this year has been outstanding.
Flanagan continued: “His role has changed a bit this year, and he’s been able to transform that into some really dynamic performances coming off the interchange… he’s a consistent and reliable player for us, whether starting or off the bench.
“We’re extremely happy to be able to extend his time at the club by another three years.”
