Rams trade running back Cam Akers to Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have a new running back in the fold. Just over three months after releasing Dalvin Cook of Opa-Locka, Florida, the Vikings acquired Cam Akers of Jackson, Mississippi in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams. In the deal, the Vikings also received a conditional seventh round draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and the Rams receive a conditional sixth round draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. There are no reports at this time what those conditions are.
Akers had not been happy as a member of the Los Angeles Rams for quite sometime. He requested a trade during the 2022 NFL season, and as a result did not play three weeks, Then Akers was inactive in the Rams’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, a 30-23 San Francisco win. As a result, Kyren Williams of St. Louis, Missouri got the playing time. Williams was very productive. He had 14 carries for 52 rushing yards and one touchdown, and had six catches for 48 receiving yards and another major score.
In week one, an impressive Rams’s 30-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks, Williams outperformed Akers. Williams had 15 carries for 52 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Akers had 22 rushes for 29 rushing yards and one touchdown.
In 2022, Akers had 188 rushes for 786 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He has 10 rushing touchdowns and 1443 rushing yards over the last four seasons for the Rams.
One reason why the Vikings are 0-2 is because of their struggles in the running game. Alexander Mattison only had 34 rushing yards in week one and 28 rushing yards in week two.
