Raiders lose Gerald McCoy and Denzelle Good for the season

Even though the Las Vegas Raiders came through with an impressive 33-27 overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night, the Raiders lost two players for the season. According to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy had a season-ending knee injury, and guard Denzelle Good suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

McCoy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma was playing in his first game with the Raiders after not playing at all in 2020 due to a ruptured quadriceps he suffered while in practice with the Dallas Cowboys. He previously played nine seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2010 to 2018, and one season with the Carolina Panthers in 2019. Expectations were high for McCoy as he played in six consecutive Pro Bowls with the Buccaneers from 2012 to 2017.

Good of Gaffney, South Carolina, is an offensive tackle, who played four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts from 2015 to 2018, before joining the Oakland Raiders on December 3, 2018. The signing with the Raiders came two days after being put on waivers by the Colts.

With the release of Good and McCoy, the Raiders have signed defensive tackle Damion Square and guard Jordan Simmons. The Raiders signed Square from the Chicago Bears. Square of Houston, Texas, in fact played in five snaps for the Bears in their 34-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night. Square previously played one season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013, before six seasons with the Chargers organization from 2015 to 2020. Simmons of Inglewood, California, was signed after playing the 2018 and 2020 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.
