Canterbury’s night series continues this Friday night with a 7 race card. Our analyst likes a Baker 3yo that has been great in 2 runs this spell and a mare recently returned to the Price stable as the value play.

Best Selection: R3- Stormland

The Baker 3yo has been terrific in 2 runs at Randwick and Canterbury this prep. He was a gallant 2nd in a photo finish over 1000m 1st up at Randwick on Boxing Day when enduring a tough run 3 and 4 deep from a wide gate and looked the winner going up the rise only to be run down late by Beside the Ocean having a softer run in behind him. He was well supported 2nd up over this track/distance and was in an awful position last on the rail at the turn. He was forced to barge his way out of a pocket before exploding with final 200m to claim a 0.7L victory. He maps to get a better run in this and should be hard to beat with even luck.

Value Selection: R7 – Monte Kate

The grey mare looks great value in the final race of the card. She returned to the Price stable after a short stint with Waller and looked great settling 2nd over this track/distance last Friday before kicking clear and looking the winner halfway up the straight only to be run down late to finish 0.1L 2nd. She can be hard to catch mixing her form but should benefit from minimal speed in this race.
