Quarterfinals set at 2023 United States Open

The final eight is set in the men’s and women’s draw at the 2023 United States Open. On the men’s side, second seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia faces ninth seed Taylor Fritz of the United States, in an all-American battle, 10th seed Frances Tiafoe faces Ben Shelton, in an all-Russian battle, third seed Daniil Medvedev faces eighth seed Andrey Rublev, and number one seed Carlos Alcaraz of Spain faces the 12th seed Alexander Zverev of Germany. On the women’s side, sixth seed Coco Gauff of the United States faces 20th seed Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, 10th seed Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic faces 30th ranked Sorana Cirstea of Romania, second seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus faces 23rd ranked Qinwen Zheng of China, and ninth ranked Marketa Vondrousova of Czech Republic faces 17th ranked Madison Keys of the United States.

In the fourth round over the last two days, three of the top five seeds were eliminated in the women’s draw. Ostapenko knocked out the world number one and defending champion, Iga Swiatek of Poland, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 on Monday. Then yesterday, Keys defeated world number three Jessica Pegula of the United States very easily 6-1, 6-3 in another all-American battle, and Zheng beat world number five Ons Jabeur of Tunisia 6-2, 6-4.

On the men’s side there were two intriguing fourth round men’s matches. Shelton upset world number 14 Tommy Paul of the United States, 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. All the talk in this match was around Shelton’s 149 mile per hour serve. Meanwhile on Monday night, Zverev beat sixth ranked Jannik Sinner of Italy, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in a five set thriller.
