Pro Football Hall of Fame OL Bob Brown dies at age 81

According to Jack Baer of Yahoo! Sports on Saturday, former National Football League offensive lineman Bob Brown of Cleveland, Ohio passed away at the age of 81 on Friday. Brown, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004, played ten seasons in the NFL from 1964 to 1973.

Brown was with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1964 to 1968, the Los Angeles Rams from 1969 to 1970, and the Oakland Raiders from 1971 to 1973. A right tackle, Brown was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1965, 1966, and four straight seasons from 1968 to 1971.

Twice Brown had a fumble recovery in his NFL career. The first time came in 1966 and the second time came in 1971. Brown also played in two NFL postseason games. The first time came in 1969 and the second time came in 1972.

Brown had an outstanding college football career with the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. He was with Nebraska from 1961 to 1963. In addition to playing on the offensive line, Brown played linebacker as well. On December 15, 1962, Brown had a key final minute interception for Nebraska in a 36-34 win over the Miami Hurricanes in the Gotham Bowl. In 1963, he was an all-American at the guard position, and was selected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993.

In the 1964 NFL Draft, Brown was the second overall pick by the Eagles. He was selected only behind Dave Parks of Muenster, Texas, who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers as an end. Parks is best known for leading the NFL in receiving yards, receptions and receiving touchdowns while with the 49ers in 1965. This was also an accomplishment recently matched by Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
