PRIDE’S WINNING FORMULA
4 years ago - Sportingbase
Joe Pride’s great ability to take a horse from another stable and take it to another level has again been proven with Taksu, who took out the main race, the Winter Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
Taksu is racing in the best form of his career and he has now won four out of his last six starts.
The most impressive win of the Randwick meeting was delivered by the lightly race John O’Shea trained Waihaha Falls who dashed away to win the Benchmark 88 over 1200 metres by almost five lengths.
There is little doubt he has the makings of a spring horse, especially on a rain affected surface.

HORSES TO FOLLOW
JOJO WAS A MAN
His jockey Reece Jones protested against the winner Taksu but the objection failed. In the straight at the 300 metres mark, Jones had to change course and head to the inside of Taksu when that horse shifted out. As a result, Jojo Was A Man went back to his inside. Stewards said that Jojo Was A Man did not lose any ground when that happened and also said he laid in the straight. They also noted that before this incident he had raced wide without cover.
CHIEF ALTONY
Good effort from this Victorian galloper who finished third behind Taksu and Jojo Was A Man. He was well positioned throughout but was out-sprinted in the early part of the straight by that pair.
He then worked to the line strongly in a manner of a horse who wants further than 1400 metres.

AGREEABLE
Another Victorian visitor who headed to Sydney in search of a wet track. She suffered interference early in the Winter Stakes and ended up a clear last. She ran on strongly to finish sixth on a day which suited on-pacers.
