PREUSKER’S AIM IS TRUE

PAUL Preusker can again raise his sights with his promising stayer Captain Envious after his impressive win in the Ballarat Cup (2000m) on Saturday.
Preusker set Captain Envious specifically for the Ballarat Cup and he was rewarded with an easy victory by the lightly raced son of Savabeel.
Preusker decided not to overtax Captain Envious this campaign and didn’t stretch him out on in distance or in his words: “I didn’t want to stay him out.”

“I always like having the right horse for the right job, and it’s only now that I thought about targeting the race,” Preusker said.
“He’s got that blistering turn of foot. He’s turned into a nice horse, handles wet and dry. I thought let’s have a go here. I didn’t want to stay him out this prep, so 2000 metres ticked the box.”

Captain Envious was ridden by Michael Dee and was part of his winning treble.
Dee wanted to stay close to the fence as that’s where the better going was at Ballarat but he had to come to the middle of the track in the straight.
Dee said Captain Envious then quickened up like it was a good track.
“He ploughed through that. He was running away from them on the line and he took time to pull him up. It was a super effort,” Dee said.

Dee has ridden 24 winners for the season and is second in the Melbourne Jockeys’ Premiership but is 14 winners behind Damian Lane who is on 38 winners.
