Pistons end 28 game losing streak with win over Raptors
2 years ago - Sportingbase
The 28-game single season record losing streak for the Detroit Pistons is officially over. On Saturday, the Pistons beat the Toronto Raptors 129-127. The Pistons had not won a game since beating the Chicago Bulls 118-102 on October 28. With the win, the Pistons improved to a record of three wins and 29 losses for a horrendous winning percentage of .094.
The old single season losing streaks were 26 games. The Cavaliers lost 26 straight games during the 2010-11 season and the 76ers lost 26 straight games during the 2013-14 season.
On Saturday, all five starters and one player off the bench reached double digits in points for the Pistons. Guard Cade Cunningham of Arlington, Texas had the double-double with 30 points and 12 assists. Another Pistons player with a double-double was center Jalen Duren of New Castle, Delaware, who had 18 points and 17 rebounds. Meanwhile, forward Bojan Bogdanovic of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina had 19 points, forward Kevin Knox of Phoenix, Arizona had 17 points, shooting guard and sixth man Alec Burks of Grandview, Missouri had 16 points, and shooting guard Jaden Ivey of South Bend, Indiana had 12 points.
Now it should be noted the Raptors played the Pistons without a complete lineup. That is because Toronto made a blockbuster deal with the New York Knicks on Saturday, when they acquired RJ Barrett of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Immanuel Quickley of Havre de Grace, Maryland for small forward OG Anunoby of London, England, point guard Malachi Flynn of Tacoma, Washington, and center Precious Achiuwa of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri deserves criticism for making the trade on Saturday, rather than Sunday, so Anunoby, Flynn and Achiuwa could be in the lineup for Toronto against Detroit.
