Pistons deliver remarkable comeback in win over Trail Blazers

The Detroit Pistons delivered a mighty impressive comeback on Monday in a 118-115 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Down by 22 points (45-23) with two minutes and 56 seconds into the second half, the Pistons stormed all the way back by outscoring the Trail Blazers 95-70 the rest of the way en route to their three point win.
In Detroit’s win over Portland, they outscored the Trail Blazers 67-55 in the second half. Five Pistons reached double digits in scoring. Guard Cade Cunningham of Arlington, Texas, the first overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, had 32 points, shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. of Orinda, California had 26 points, forward Tobias Harris of Islip, New York had 17 points, center Jalen Duren of New Castle, Delaware had 14 points, and small forward Simone Fontecchio of Pescara, Italy had 10 points off the bench. Duren also had a double-double as he had 12 rebounds.
This is the third biggest comeback in the NBA this season. The Los Angeles Clippers had a 26 point comeback in beating the San Antonio Spurs 113-104 on November 4, and the Orlando Magic had a 25 point comeback in beating the Miami Heat 121-114 on December 21.
The Trail Blazers could not continue their momentum from Saturday, when they stunned the Milwaukee Bucks 105-102 as a 12.5 point underdog. The Pistons, meanwhile, are red hot. After beating the Brooklyn Nets 113-98 on Wednesday, they have now won five straight games and have a record of 19 wins and 18 losses. Another notable win during the streak came on New Year’s Day, as the Pistons beat the Magic 105-96. Detroit was able to overcome a broken leg to Jaden Ivey and still get the win. The five game winning streak is noteworthy when the Pistons lost 28 straight games last season.
