Phoenix Suns reach the 2021 NBA Finals

The Phoenix Suns are in the NBA Finals for the third time in franchise history. On Wednesday, the Suns defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 130-103 in game six at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California to win the Western Conference Finals four games to two.

With the win, the Suns will either play the Milwaukee Bucks or the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Finals. That series has a long way to go. That is because the Hawks and Bucks are deadlocked at two games apiece in the Eastern Conference Final.

On Wednesday what we saw was brilliant production at the point guard position from the aging wonder, Chris Paul. The 11-time NBA All-Star who led the NBA with a .934 free-throw percentage in the regular season, was simply spectacular at the age of 36, and coming back from the coronavirus. In game six, Paul had 41 points, which tied a career playoff-high. He previously had 41 points in a 112-102 Rockets win over the Utah Jazz on May 8, 2018, in game five of the Western Conference semi-finals.

The most points scored by the Suns in a playoff game (151) actually happened in a loss. On May 11, 1992, in game four of the Western Conference semifinals, the Suns lost 153-151 to the Portland Trail Blazers in double overtime. The most points scored by the Suns in a playoff game in a Suns win came on May 4, 1994. The Suns defeated the Golden State Warriors 140-133 in game three of the Western Conference quarterfinals.

The first time the Suns reached the NBA Finals was 1976 as they lost four games to two to the Boston Celtics. The second time came in 1993 as they lost four games to two to the Chicago Bulls.
