The Philadelphia 76ers fired head coach Brett Brown of South Portland, Maine on Monday according to the Associated Press. Brown had been the head coach of the 76ers from 2013 to 2020. In 565 regular season games while Brown was the head coach, the 76ers had a record of 221 wins and 344 losses.

Philadelphia was able to reach the postseason with Brown as their head coach in each of the last three years. In 2018, the 76ers beat the Miami Heat in five games in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals before losing in five games to the Boston Celtics. Then in 2019, the 76ers once again reached the Eastern Conference Semifinals as they beat the Brooklyn Nets in five games before losing to the Toronto Raptors in seven games in round two.

In 2019-20, the 76ers finished in third place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 43 wins and 30 losses. They were dominant at home as they had the best record in the NBA at 31 wins and four losses. However, they struggled mightily away from the Wells Fargo Center, as they only posted a record of 12 wins and 26 losses.

Seeded sixth heading to the knockout round, the 76ers were swept by the Boston Celtics. In fact the 76ers are one of three teams in the East who were beaten in four games straight. The others were the Brooklyn Nets, who were swept by the Toronto Raptors, and the Indiana Pacers, who were swept by the Miami Heat. The Raptors sweep over the Nets, was their first four-game sweep in postseason franchise history.
