Phil Mickelson feeling comfortable on the Champions Tour

When Phil Mickelson turned 50 on June 16, he at that time qualified for participation in golf’s Champions Tour. He has only played two seniors events over the last four months, and has had significant success, by winning both tournaments.
The first win came at the Charles Schwab Series at the Ozarks National Golf Course in Ridgedale, Missouri. Mickelson put together three rounds of golf with scores all in the 60’s, highlighted by an opening-round score of 61, which was the best round among all golfers in the field. Mickelson’s 54 hole score of -22, helped him beat Tim Petrovic of Northampton, Massachusetts by four strokes.
The second win came on Sunday at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic in Richmond, Virginia, where he beat Canadian Mike Weir in a battle of lefties who have each won the Masters in the past. Mickelson won the green jacket in 2004, 2006, and 2010, while Weir won in 2003. In Virginia, Mickelson had a three-round score of -17, and was three strokes better than Weir, who finished at -14.
Weir actually had a three-stroke lead on Mickelson heading into the final round. The seniors played 36 holes of golf on Saturday after the first round was delayed due to heavy rain.

At the age of 50, Mickelson is still looking for his first win this season on the PGA Tour in 2020. He has won each of the last two years–at the 2018 WGC Mexico Championship, and at the 2019 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, an event he has won five times. Next month, Mickelson will get an automatic qualification for the Masters because he is a past champion.
