PGA Tour to increase prize money for 2022-23 season

The PGA Tour announced on Monday their plans to increase the prize money next season on their tour to $428.6 million according to Rory Jones of sportspromedia.com. This decision came after the formation of the LIV Tour, which started play in June.
The LIV Tour has announced that they are offering $405 million next season. However, one must realize the field for LIV golf events are significantly smaller, as the PGA Tour has 47 events, while the LIV Tour only has 14 events.
The big news from the PGA Tour is that the World Golf Championship-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China is cancelled for the third straight year because of coronavirus restrictions in China. The LPGA Tour will not be going to China either.

Despite not going to China, the PGA Tour will be going to Japan in the fall with the Zozo Championship in Inzai. Japanese golf star Hideki Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion, is the defending champion.
The other significant news is that the British Open will be a week later next year than this year. As a result, the Rocket Mortgage Classic, which takes place in Detroit, and was won this year by Tony Finau, will be at the beginning of July and take place before the final major of the year, rather than afterwards.
Despite the fact that many high profile golfers have left the PGA Tour for the LIV Tour in recent months, they still have many high-profile supporters. They include multi-major champions Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland and Justin Thomas of the United States.
