Pelicans deliver biggest comeback in franchise history

The New Orleans Pelicans delivered their biggest comeback in franchise history on Sunday according to SB Nation. Down by 24 points, at 79-55 in the third quarter, the Pelicans marched all the way back to take a 101-98 lead with three minutes and 39 seconds left. The Celtics then found a way to force overtime, and tie the score at 108 points apiece. Then in the extra five minutes of action, the Pelicans outscored the Celtics 12-7 to win by five points, 120-115.
The second biggest comeback in Pelicans history came on December 15, 2010. New Orleans was trailing the Sacramento Kings by 23 points at 66-43, before winning 94-91.
On Sunday, small forward Brandon Ingram of Kinston, North Carolina led the Pelicans in scoring with 33 points. He made 11 of his 22 field goal attempts, all six of his free throws, and five of 12 points from beyond the three-point line. It was also a strong game for Zion Williamson, who once again had a double-double. Williamson had 28 points and 10 rebounds.

Even though Williamson and Ingram played with the University of Duke Blue Devils at different times (Ingram in 2015 and 2016), and Williamson in 2018 and 2019), it is clear that Duke University men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski made both Williamson and Ingram ready for the NBA. Williamson, who was the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, continues to be a game-changer for an improved Pelicans squad, while Ingram is showing continued improvement since being selected second overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2016 NBA Draft.
Last season, Ingram averaged a career-high 23.8 points per game, and was an All-Star in his first season in New Orleans. This year he is even better at 23.9 points per game. With the win, New Orleans improved to 13 wins and 17 losses on the season.
