Patriots safety Devin McCourty retires at age 35

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN on Friday, two-time Pro Bowler Devin McCourty of Nyack, New York retired at the age of 35. He played his entire career with the New England Patriots from 2010 to 2022.
A safety, McCourty played 205 games with New England, all as a starter. He had 35 interceptions for 581 yards and two interceptions for touchdowns. McCourty also had 110 pass deflections, 11 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries for 61 yards, three sacks, 971 combined tackles (740 solo tackles and 231 assisted tackles), 20 tackles for a loss and four quarterback hits.
One of McCourty’s most notable interceptions in his career came on October 29, 2018 in a 25-6 Patriots win over the Buffalo Bills. He had an 84-yard interception return for a touchdown.
McCourty was selected to the Pro Bowl the first time in his rookie season of 2010. That year he had a career-highs in interceptions (seven), and interception yards (110). McCourty also had two forced fumbles, 17 pass deflections, one sack, 82 combined tackles (69 solo tackles and 13 assisted tackles), three tackles for a loss and one quarterback hit.

In 2016, McCourty was selected to the Pro Bowl for a second time. He had 83 combined tackles (67 solo tackles, 16 assisted tackles), one tackle for a loss, one interception, seven pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery for three yards.
Three times in his career McCourty was a Super Bowl champion. The titles came in 2015, 2017, and 2019. The Super Bowl titles came over the Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams.
In the playoffs, McCourty had 119 combined tackles (92 solo tackles and 27 assisted tackles), one tackle for a loss, one quarterback hit, two interceptions for four yards, and 10 pass deflections. He holds the NFL record for the most postseason starts by a defensive player with 24.
Devin’s twin brother Jason also played in the NFL. He retired on July 15, 2022 at the age of 34 after 13 seasons in the National Football League with the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins.
