Pat Murphy and Stephen Vogt win MLB Manager of the Year award again
3 months ago - Sportingbase
History was made in Major League Baseball on Tuesday. For the first time ever, the Manager of the Year in each league from the year before were both recognized for the second straight season as the MLB Managers of the Year. Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt of Visalia, California won the American League Manager of the Year and Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy of Syracuse, New York won the National League Manager of the Year.
To put the accomplishments of Vogt and Murphy into perspective, only twice before has a Major League Baseball manager won the Manager of the Year award two consecutive seasons. Bobby Cox of Tulsa, Oklahoma was the first manager to accomplish the feat as he was honoured with the Atlanta Braves in 2004 and 2005 as the National League Manager of the Year two straight seasons. Then Kevin Cash of Tampa, Florida was honoured with the Tampa Bay Rays as the American League Manager of the Year in 2020 and 2021.

Murphy led the Brewers to the best record in Major League Baseball during the regular season. Milwaukee’s record was 97 wins and 65 losses for a winning percentage of .599. When Murphy was honoured last season by Major League Baseball, the Brewers had a regular season record of 93 wins and 69 losses for a winning percentage of .574.
Vogt led the Guardians to a spectacular comeback during the season. On July 8, the Guardians were trailing the Detroit Tigers by 15.5 games in the American League Central. However, it was the Guardians and not the Tigers that won the division, as Cleveland finished the year at 88 wins and 74 losses. When Vogt was named the 2024 AL Manager of the Year, the Guardians were are at 92 wins and 69 losses.
