Parker and Pierceson Coody make history at the 2024 Houston Open

Unique history was made on Thursday at the 2024 Houston Open. According to pgatour.com, for the first time ever, twins played together in the same group at a PGA Tour event. Parker and Pierceson Coody of Plano, Texas shot scores of even par and one-under-par respectively after the first round.
If the last name of Coody sounds familiar, it should. That is because Charles Coody of Stamford, Texas, the grandfather of Parker and Pierceson, won the 1971 Masters in Augusta, Georgia. Charles Coody posted a score of -9 at the first major of the year 53 years ago, and beat fellow Americans Jack Nicklaus and Johnny Miller by two strokes.
Pierceson and Parker Coody both went to the University of Texas. Interestingly it was the same university their father Kyle attended. Kyle Coody participated on the Asian Tour and Korn Ferry Tour during the 1990s. Prior to being on the PGA Tour, Charles Coody attended Abilene Christian University, and earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Texas Christian University.
Pierceson and Parker Coody meanwhile are both 24 years of age. They were both born on January 7, 2000. Pierceson Coody won three events on the Korn Ferry Tour. He has participated in one major tournament, and missed the cut in 2021. Pierceson Coody was also on the American team that won the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup (team event between the United States and an International team featuring a dozen men and a dozen women), and the 2021 Walker Cup (an amateur team event featuring the United States versus Great Britain and Ireland). Parker Coody won a non-tour professional golf tournament in Pebble Beach and a PGA Tour Canada event in 2022.
The Coody twins are not the only twins to compete in high performance golf lately. Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard of Denmark both competed at the 2023 British Open won by Brian Harman.
