Pakenham Preview: Moroney Hoping To Continue His Spring Blast
3 years ago - Sportingbase
MIKE Moroney has had a stellar end to the spring carnival and he is hoping it continues in its final major race with his two-pronged attack on the Pakenham Cup.
Moroney takes two runners from last Saturday’s Caulfield meeting to the 2500 metres event and they are last Saturday’s Eclipse Stakes winner Milford and tough old stayer Sound who finished fifth in the Zipping Classic,
In recent weeks, Moroney has captured the VRC Sprint Championship with Roch ’N’ Horse, finished second in the Melbourne Cup with Emissary and won the Ballarat Cup with Bankers Choice.
Moroney said on RSN that both horses had pulled up well from last Saturday.
“Their bloods were perfect. Sound was carrying on like a five-year-old stallion,” Moroney said.
He said with Milford it was a good opportunity to see whether he could run 2400 metres.

Moroney pointed out that as a three-year-old Milford finished second in the New Zealand Derby and then failed in the ATC Derby.
“It’s worth a try as going forward we can work out whether he can stay or not and plan accordingly,” Moroney said.

Moroney said Sound was getting close to the end of his career but if he ran well he could continue next year in staying races.
Milford, who will be ridden by Blake Shinn, is a $4.40 equal favourite with Kissinger with TopSport. Sound, who will be ridden by Jamie Mott, is a $12 chance.
