Our three best tips of the 2023 Players Championship

One of the prestigious events on the golf calendar starts Thursday with the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass can be terrifying for even the world’s best, as the green is surrounded by water. Here are the three golfers I like this week.

Rory McIlroy

Out of the big three, McIlroy is the golfer we like the most this week. He has won the Players Championship before back in 2019 as he shot a four-round score of -16 to take the title. Last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, McIlroy finished tied for second place, and was only one stroke back of the champion, Kurt Kitayama of the United States.

Patrick Cantlay

The best player outside the big three at the moment is Patrick Cantlay of Long Beach, California. Despite not being a major champion in the past, Cantlay is an eight-time PGA Tour champion. Of his eight titles included the 2021 Tour Championship, where he won an additional $15 million in being the FedEx Cup champion. In his last 15 PGA events, Cantlay has missed only one cut.

Justin Thomas

The native of Louisville, Kentucky is ninth in the world. The two-time PGA Championship winner was actually the last active PGA player to win the Players Championship, a feat he accomplished back in 2021 where he beat Lee Westwood by a stroke. Thomas has been very consistent the last several months as he has made the cut in his last 11 events.
