Our three best tips for the 2025 Sony Open
1 year ago - Sportingbase
For the second straight week the PGA Tour is in Hawaii. After Hideki Matsuyama of Japan won last week in Maui, it is time for the 2025 Sony Open in Honolulu. Here are the three golfers we like the most.
Hideki Matsuyama
When you shoot -35 and in the process post a score that no one has ever done before over four rounds, it is no wonder Matsuyama is considered the favourite. The 2021 Masters champion won the Sentry Tournament of Champions this past weekend thanks to two eagles, one on a par four. The native of Matsuyama, Japan is now fifth in the world, and is building with an incredible amount of confidence. However, before you go all in with picking Matsuyama, remember only two golfers have ever won in Maui and Honolulu in the same year. That was Ernie Els of Johannesburg, South Africa in 2003, and Justin Thomas of Louisville, Kentucky, who accomplished the feat in 2017.

Corey Conners
The native of Listowel, Ontario was in contention of the first two rounds of the Sentry before tampering off. Currently 33rd in the world, Conners has been in the top 10 in his last three PGA events, and is poised to have a big year.

Si-Woo Kim
The native of Seoul, South Korea won the 2023 Sony Open. There he posted a score of -18 and beat American Hayden Buckley by a stroke. Kim is one of three South Koreans expected to be in contention. He is joined by Joohyung Kim and Byeong-Hun An.
