Our three best tips for the 2025 Players Championship

The 2025 Players Championship will once again take place at the Players Stadium Course near Jacksonville on Thursday. Even though it is not a major, the Players Championship has the largest purse on the PGA Tour, with the winner receiving $4.5 million. Here are the three golfers we like the most this week.

Scottie Scheffler

The native of Ridgewood, New Jersey is the world number one, and has had great past success at the Players. He has won the tournament the last two years. In 2023, Scheffler posted a winning score of -17 to beat runner-up Tyrell Hatton of High Wycombe, England by five strokes. Then in 2024, Scheffler was three strokes better as he posted a winning score of -20. This time he beat three American major champions (Brian Harman, Xander Schauffele and Wyndham Clark) by a single stroke.

Collin Morikawa

The two-time major champion (2020 PGA Championship and 2021 British Open) has finished second twice this year on the PGA Tour. He was second behind Hideki Matsuyama of Japan at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui in January, even though he posted a remarkable score of -32. Then Morikawa was second last week to Russell Henley at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Rory McIlroy

The world number two from Holywood, Northern Ireland won the 2019 Players Championship. There he beat Jim Furyk by a single stroke. McIlroy comes to Jacksonville with momentum as he won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am back in February.
