It is Super Bowl weekend, and this also means the world’s best golfers are in Arizona for the Phoenix Open. A year ago, many Canadians actually watched golf over football as Nick Taylor of Winnipeg, Manitoba was the champion. Here are the three golfers we like the most this week.
Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler made his 2025 debut last week at Pebble Beach, and finished in a very respectable ninth place at -15. The hand injury he suffered at Christmas time while making ravioli did not seem to be a significant issue. Scheffler has had great success at Phoenix in the past, as he won in 2022 and 2023. In 2022 when Scheffler won, he had a winning score of -16 and beat fellow American Patrick Cantlay in a playoff. Then in 2023 when Scheffler won, he had a winning score of -19 and beat Taylor by two strokes.

Sepp Straka
One can make the argument that Sepp Straka of Vienna, Austria has been one of the finest golfers of the 2025 season. He won the American Express a couple of weeks ago in Palm Springs and was the leader after three rounds at Pebble Beach last weekend before dropping down to seventh place.

Nick Taylor
Sometimes a golf course fits a golfer and that is the case with Taylor. He finished second in 2023 and won in 2024. Like Straka, Taylor is a winner in 2025, as he won the Sony Open in Honolulu last month.
