Our three best tips for the 2025 Houston Open

The PGA Tour now moves from Florida to Texas for the Texas Children’s Houston Open. This will be the second straight year that there are just regular PGA Tour stops in Texas. From 2016 to 2023, the World Golf Matchplay Championship took place around this time before all World Golf Championship events were cancelled. Here are the three golfers we like the most this week in Houston.

Scottie Scheffler

The two-time Masters champion has had two runner-up finishes at the Houston Open over the last four years. In 2021, he posted a score of -8, and was two strokes back of champion Jason Kokrak. Then in 2024, Scheffler had a score of -11, and was one stroke back of champion Stephan Jaeger of Germany. It should be noted that even though Scheffler was born in New Jersey, he has lived in Dallas since age six. Of Scheffler’s 13 PGA titles, one came in Texas–the 2022 World Matchplay Championship. There, Scheffler beat Kevin Kisner 4 & 3.

Tony Finau

The pride of Salt Lake City, Utah has been great at the last two Houston Opens. In 2022, Finau was the class of the field as he dominated his opponents. He posted a four round score of -16 to beat second place finisher Tyson Alexander of Gainesville, Florida by four strokes. Then in 2024, Finau tied Scheffler for second place at -11.

Stephan Jaeger

The German star is the defending champion after beating five golfers by a single stroke last year. This remains the only PGA Tour title for Jaeger, who is currently 44th in the world.
