Our three best tips for the 2024 Phoenix Open

One of golf’s most intriguing stops on the PGA Tour begins Thursday. The reason why the Phoenix Open is so different than all the other stops in golf are the fans. In an electric atmosphere, fans are encouraged to be as rowdy as possible. Here are three golfers we like the most at the 2024 Phoenix Open.

Scottie Scheffler

There is a lot to like about Scheffler here. Not only is he the world number one, but he has won the Phoenix Open the last two years. In 2022, Scheffler shot a four-round score of -16 and beat Patrick Cantlay in a playoff and then in 2023, shot a four-round score of -19 to beat Canadian Nick Taylor by two strokes. It should be noted that Taylor went on to win the Canadian Open. Only one other golfer has won the Phoenix Open three years in a row. That was Arnold Palmer from 1961 to 1963.

Justin Thomas

There is a lot to like about Justin Thomas’s game at the moment. He has received high praise for his ball striking and has had two superb performances in the last month in California. Thomas was third at the American Express, and sixth at Pebble Beach. It appears his inconsistent 2023 season is behind him.

Hideki Matsuyama

The 2021 Masters champion has also won the Phoenix Open twice. In 2016, Matsuyama beat Rickie Fowler in a playoff after shooting a four-round score of -14, and then a year later in 2017, beat Webb Simpson in a playoff after shooting a four-round score of -17. It is the only tournament Matsutyama has won more than once.
