Our three best tips for the 2023 Phoenix Open

This weekend is one of the most intriguing weekends in golf, as the Phoenix Open takes place in front of an unusual ruckus crowd on the same day as the Super Bowl.  What will make this weekend so unique is that Arizona will be hosting the Super Bowl too as the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will play at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. Here are three players we like this weekend at the 2023 Phoenix Open.

1) Jon Rahm

Whenever Rahm enters an event these days, he needs to be chosen as a contender. The Arizona State University Communications grad has already won the Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express in 2023. Rahm is currently third in the world with 7.9136 average points. He only trails Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland and Scottie Scheffler of the the United States.

2) Scottie Scheffler

The second ranked player in the world is the defending champion. He won in 2022 in a playoff over Patrick Cantlay. Scheffler has four PGA Tour victories, but the 2022 Phoenix Open title is the only championship he won that needed a playoff.

3) Hideki Matsuyama

The 20th ranked player in the world and 2021 Masters champion, has won the Phoenix Open twice. This is the only tournament he has won on multiple occasions. In 2016, Matsuyama beat American Rickie Fowler in a playoff, and then in 2017, beat 2012 United States Open champion Webb Simpson of the United States, also in a playoff.
