Our three best tips for the 2023 Memorial Tournament
3 years ago - Sportingbase
The 2023 Memorial Tournament is to get underway on Thursday. Whenever you think of the Memorial, golf icon Jack Nicklaus comes to mind. He designed the course at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. It just so happens to be in Nicklaus’s home state as he is from Columbus.
Jon Rahm
The world number two from Barrika, Spain has a rich history at the Memorial. He was victorious in 2020 and then had the worst of luck in 2021. Two years ago he had the six stroke lead heading into the final round, but had to withdraw because the tested positive for coronavirus.

Patrick Cantlay
With Rahm being forced to withdraw two years ago, the biggest beneficiary turned out to be Cantlay, who posted a four round score of -13. Yes, there are some, including me that believes an asterisk should be beside Cantlay’s name in this circumstance. However, one cannot ignore the fact he beat 2020 PGA Championship winner and 2021 British Open champion winner Collin Morikawa in a playoff. This was Cantlay’s second Memorial Championship as he also won in 2019 by posting a score of -19, and beating 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott of Australia by two strokes. At number four in the world, you could make the argument that Cantlay is the best golfer on the planet never to have won a major title.

Sung-Jae Im
The 19th ranked player in the world does well on courses that do not necessarily need great driver distance according to Brandon Gdula of Fan Duel. He has five top-10 finishes so far in 2023, and won the Woori World Financial Group Championship earlier this month in his home country of South Korea.
