Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 21/9

The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from Saturday’s Randwick meeting and our analyst has found 5 runners that look ready to win moving forward into the Spring.

Sharp Shock
The Rodney Northam gelding defied the pattern of the day rocketing down the outside for 2nd recording a 33.46 final 600m and 11.42 final 200m. It was the fastest last 600m for the race and faster than any of the runners in the G3 Bill Ritchie.

Where he goes to next will be interesting. Stepping up to the Randwick mile looks the perfect set up. There is a BM88 in a fortnight that fits the bill. The lure of the Kosciuszko may be tempting for connections but I couldn’t have him going back to 1200m.

Eliyass

The Waterhouse/Bott European import is building an incredible record. He often see Europeans come to Australia after impressing earlier in their careers before failing at a certain level. Not this guy. He was 8: 6-2-0 when he arrived and has now recorded 3 consective victories in Listed and 2x G3 Company.

He got the gun run behind the leading stablemate and was strong holding off the brave Ceolwulf to win by 0.4L with a further 2L back to 3rd. He will continue to improve with every run in Australian training and looks a great Metropolitan chance where he has come into a $3.2 favourite.

Ceolwulf

He was a brave runner up behind Eliyass. You could make an argument that barrier 13 cost him the race as he sat 3 wide facing the breeze the entire trip. Showed the same turn of foot we saw last start and looked a great chance to beat Eliyass at the 200m before the tough run took its’ toll. I would love to see him contest the Epsom or if not stay at 2000m as his turn of foot is too electric to risk losing over 2400m. He is an $8 2nd favourite for the Metrop.

Fangirl

Obviously anything but a hidden gem but her win was just too impressive to not discuss. As stated above, it was very difficult for runners to make ground in the straight outside of lanes 2-3. She was last on the turn and looked certain to run home for a credible 3rd but the way she picked up from the 300m to the 200m quickly had her withing striking distance and ended up winning by 0.5L with J Mac sitting up the last 50m. She’s going as well as ever.

Stefi Magnetica

I wasn’t completely sold on the hype of Stefi returning from her G1 Stradbroke win. The 1100m Shorts never looked like her race but it nearly was. After settling last, she was all over heels and weaved through restricted room along the fence before flashing the last 100m to finish 0.2L 2nd. Another stride or an uninterrupted run and she was the winner.

I don’t know where she goes next. There has been Everest Talks but from a punting standpoint I’d love to see her target something like The Invitation over 1400m.
CHANCES ARE YOU’RE ABOUT TO LOSE.
