Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 19/4

The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from G1 All Aged Stakes Day at Randwick. Our analyst has found a Waterhouse/Bott 3yo that looks well placed heading towards the Queensland Derby. A Neasham/Archibald stayer that returned in great order and a Lees 5yo that should be hard to beat in the Hawkesbury Cup.

Shangri La Spring

The Waterhouse/Bott 3yo was terrific taking out the G3 Frank Packer Plate by 0.6L, albeit having the race run to suit on top of the tempo. I love seeing progressive horses from that yard winning when stepping up sharply in trip for the first time. He looks one to follow into Brisbane if that’s where they choose to go. He is currently $51 in Betr’s Queensland Derby Futures Market.

Naval College

I loved what I saw from the consistent Neasham/Archibald stayer resuming in the G3 Jra Plate. He settled 5th behind a soft tempo and found himself making his run widest on the rurn, which is always a tough place to be at Randwick, particularly 1st up over a trip. He was entitled to peak on his run at the furlong but really picked up late to finish 3.6L 4th. He looks to be going as well as ever off that 1st up run and is another to follow to Brisbane with a 5: 2-2-1 2nd up record. He is currently $51 in Betr’s Doomben Cup Future’s Market.

Tavi Time

The Lees 5yo looks to be a lot more forward early on in this prep and likely targeting mile races after a game 0.3L 2nd in the final race of the carnival. He settled 8th and worked hard right to the line but couldn’t quite reel in yet another Baker runner that just kept finding when looking cooked at the furlong. He looks a great bet in the Hawkesbury Cup over 1600m in a fortnight’s time.
